India’s 1^st Digital Library in Police Station- PS Jamia Nagar, South-East District Police

Delhi Police Public Library, a unique initiative of started by Delhi Police, on 22nd February 2012, in association with Shikhar Organisation for Social Development,   for   the   required co-ordination and expertise to conduct it, running in the premises of police station itself in order to bridge the gap between general public & police, & also to encourage the habit of reading among general public particularly underprivileged students. It’s a role model in itself.

The Uniqueness of this library is that, India it is the first project of community-policing which has been running for such a long time in aisle the police station.

Police is connecting with every section of the society. Through this project, the youths are getting benefit after taking guidance from this library. This initiative was taken to lay the foundation of a good society.

Needs and Challenges:

Specially after the Batla House encounter, there was a great distance between the police and the public in Jamia Nagar area and to re-build trust between the police and the public, the then DCP Mr. Ajay Chaudhary proposed that some such activities were started go so that the police and the public can come on one platform and to do something.

Such a library should be built, through which specially the youth can solve the problems related to their studies and their fear of coming inside the police station ends and gradually they can establish a relationship with the police.

For this work, Nadeem Akhtar, who was doing commendable work in the field of education work in Jamia Nagar area for the last several years through his institution Shikhar, was called by Mr. Ajay Chaudhary and discuss about this project and it was decided that we should be safe. Students and those who are preparing for some examinations will be given a place here so that when they go out, it is discussed in the society and a good initiative will be started.

On 22 February 2012, the first Delhi Police Public Library was established at the Police Station Jamia Nagar. As soon as this library was started, some people living in Jamia Nagar and specially political people protested that the police is misleading our youth through the library, due to which the entire team working in the library was threatened and there was a lot of torture by being caught on the streets, but with the courage of the entire team of the police, this project was carried forward, even today people come forward to oppose it from time to time.

But with a lot of patience and understanding, the activities of this library were started and the entire team of police & Shikhar stood up and took this library forward under their supervision and gradually carried it forward and specially for the students, such facilities were organized so that He should come inside the police station in the library and do his studies in which the children The library environment along with the facilities of studies, the free coaching of their entrance exam attracted the students a lot and even today this library is working on the same pattern.
